Personal Statement

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over six years of experience working with adults with mental, emotional, and behavioral health issues. I have counseled individuals with a variety of presenting conditions, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, poor impulse control, phase of life problems, family and relationship issues, sexual abuse, and trauma.

My therapeutic approach is very much grounded in the belief that we as human beings are capable and driven to creatively assume control for what our lives will look like. While I don’t believe that we are determined by our past, I do recognize how the emotions and interpretations we attach to past events play a powerful role in how we create meaning around our identities. As such, my counseling style focuses on creating an environment of safety, trust, and non-judgment to allow clients to safely explore uncomfortable emotions and the unhelpful beliefs that accompany them.

Working collaboratively, I support clients to gain insight into the issue areas that are keeping them from being their fullest selves while developing strategies to break through these barriers so they can live the lives of their choosing. Ultimately, I believe my role as a therapist is to use compassion and empathy to support individuals in better interacting with their experiences and issues, and to work with clients to create new and more adaptive ways of understanding themselves and the world in which they exist.

My counseling style is integrated and flexible, blending cognitive-behavioral techniques with strategies for mindfulness and emotional regulation to help clients understand and revisit their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. That said, there is no “one-size-fits-all” for therapy, and I feel it is important for me as a clinician to listen and adapt to my clients to best meet them where they are.

I joined Daemion Counseling in 2019 as a Therapist and Outreach Specialist. In addition to providing psychotherapy and counseling services, I am also committed to increasing understanding and awareness around mental health issues at the community level. As such, my role at Daemion involves establishing partnerships and collaborations with organizations in the community to educate and increase the conversation around mental health and wellness. I am available to provide presentations and discussion/support groups related to a variety of mental health issues. I welcome the opportunity to work with you!
