Personal Statement

frances_cuneoClients come to counseling to be heard, and through listening, comes a deeper understanding of the mind and heart and the bridge between them. I join my client where he or she is and we delve into the mysteries of the daily emotional challenges, and try to lead the client towards more workable and satisfying ways of living life.

Based on my assessment, the client and I work on the issues that brought them to counseling, for example, anxiety, depression, mood disorders. My client may have an adjustment problems relating to the work, friendship, or relationship tasks of life. We work on strategies, such as using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to improve life tasks and change unwanted behavior. Improvement continues as the client understands what holds one back from moving forward, using strategies from family systems therapy and Adler’s Individual Psychology. I help the client address the basic emotional needs of feeling connected, capable, and the courage to move towards resilience.

I am a pastoral counselor, trained to see the client through the lens of both clinical psychology and pastoral and spiritual issues. Whether my client recognizes his/her spirituality, I see the client holistically, an integration of one’s psychological and spiritual dimensions. Some clients may lack gratitude or lack forgiveness, yet my job is to instill hope, to help clients move towards forgiveness which eventually becomes a life-giving transformation for the clients.
